Can colitis and irritable bowel syndrome are to be passed on to my child?

Tagged As: Child Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Question:
Any advice about irritable bowel syndrome (its cause, good medications, natural aids...), or its combination with colitis would be greatly appreciated. Also, doctors that give up on patients annoy me. If anyone who lives in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) has a really good doctor, who doesn't give up, please tell me. Finally, I'm 22, just graduating, and starting my adult life. I'm scared irritable bowel syndrome could impact on my career due to missed days, symptoms that take away from concentration and enthusiasm. I'm also in a solid relationship, and am thinking about getting married in the near future. Kids would be really neat someday. I'm concerned that with a pain in the gut nearly everyday, a satisfying life isn't going to happen soon. And who wants to get pregnant when they already have stomach problems? I don't even know how likely colitis and irritable bowel syndrome are to be passed on to my child? Comments, advice?

One good thing is this news group.  I think the fact that you have posted to this group is a good sign that you are coming to grips with what you will need to deal with.  (The fact that I am posting is also a positive sign
