If it is safe or worth to do a colon cleansing

Tagged As: Bowel Cleansing

Question:
I have uc and was just wondering if it is safe or worth to do a colon cleansing. Symptoms I have encountered lately are pain and stiffness in my neck, shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles. I have also, in the past month, have diarrhea and I believe mucus in my bm. I also feel extremely tired. If anyone has any answers or suggestions

Answer:
I wouldn't do the colon cleansing with colitis.  Like Nina says, your colon is already irritated.  Talk to your doctor.  I normally wouldn't see anything wrong with this procedure but, that is with someone that does NOT have serious intestinal issues.  I have not tried one but have done some research on it.  Anything that I've read on it says nothing about performing this procedure on people with pre-existing intestinal conditions. Colon cleansing has been a subject of debate for a long time.  As others have noted, this is far from a professional forum.  Before doing cleansings or changing medications, check with your specialist.  Cleansing the colon may interfere with the normal flora.  I have Had UC for two years.  I am on the third and most severe of this arthritic-like experience with the right knee, jaw and hand.  A referral has been made to a rheumatologist. IBD is certainly unpleasant; however, others have it a lot worse.
