Question:
My poor little Brit was diagnosed with this the other day. I say that in quotes because it is the most likely diagnosis without doing a colon biopsy. He has intermittent diarrhea, really watery and mucousy (sorry to be so gross!) about once a week or once every 2 weeks, lasts all day, then goes away. My vet says it's really common in German Shephards. Anyone have a hunting dog with this? Or any experience in general with it? If so, what food did you find worked best for your dog? I've had mine on several, but right now he's on Iams, which he seems to have tolerated about the best. I'm searching for the perfect one, though!
Answer:
I know of a couple of people with small dogs that had good luck with Nutro Lamb and Rice. The irritable bowel syndrome was never officially diagnosed but the symptoms were identical, and they cleared up almost entirely with the Nutro. Well, my dog used to be on Nutros, but when he switched to the adult formula he developed HORRIBLE gas. I mean, so bad that I would have to wash anything he came near, because the smell lingered. So I had to switch! I was bummed, because he really liked that food.
