Question:
Has anyone had an irritable uterus? My doctor told me that my uterus was irritable, not sure if that's the same thing. What was it like for you? My contractions were coming every two minutes, and Procardia has brought them to a halt for now. They felt like my uterus was getting very tight, sometimes it would have an almost burning sensation to it. It was coupled with cramping. Now that the contractions have ceased, my uterus feels very sore, like it's had the workout of its life.
Answer:
I had it with my 2nd. It was discovered when I was having weekly Non Stress Tests. My Dr thinks it was from being GBS +. I was given antibiotics for 10 days and it stopped, but when the medicine was done, it came back. I personally never felt it. I had it in my pg, but I also have an irritable bladder and irritable bowel too so it didn't come as a surprise to me. I started contractions at 25 weeks (about every 7 minutes) and was on bed rest and terbutaline until 36 weeks at which point I thought I'd go in to labor spontaneously. I delivered a healthy (big 8lb 14oz) girl 2 days before my EDD but spent the 4 weeks prior to that having pretty regular and painful ctx (but with no cervical change until the week prior to my delivery). Mine felt like the pain you get when constipated - in fact when it started that's what I thought it was. When I called my OB and described the pain she sent me to L&D triage and I got monitored. Major PIA and is the one thing that is making me hesitate to get pg with my second. Good luck. I hope you are able to get some answers. Are you going to switch from your insensitive doctor to a new one?? I don't know anything about irritable uterus - I'm just sooo happy they managed to stop the contractions. I have a sensitive uterus that contract's as soon as you look at it, I don't like to think of it as irritable though, a little grumpy maybe. What you described sounds like what I would call braxton hicks for me, but that doesn't mean they are for you. My twins were my 8th pregnancy so I was well used to knowing what was a real contraction and what was a practice contraction. All I can say is if in doubt get it checked, I can't think of anything worse than ignoring them only to find out you have dilated to 5 cm's and there's no going back. I'm pleased things have settled down, make sure you get lots of rest now, and don't forget that protein and water! I had it with both pregnancies. It started at 7 mos with #1 and at 6 months with #2. I was on bed rest and pain meds. It hurt almost all day everyday. It ended when the pregnancy ended. My doctor said bed rest would do no good. He said I'd be better off running a marathon than staying off my feet. Then again he said he prescribed the nifedipine just to relieve me cramps, and told me to think hard about whether or not I wanted to take it (after he told me all the side effects). He said bed rest and meds wouldn't work, so why have they worked for so many other women? I just don't get his thinking.
