Condition of ischemic bowel

Tagged As: Bowel Ischemia

Question:
I was informed in March of this year that my mother died of a condition of ischemic bowel / arterial insufficiency.  I have not been able to find any information on this condition/disease in any medical book or journal. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Ischemia is an inadequate flow of blood, usually due to a constriction in the blood vessels. It is possible that arterial plaques caused the blockage. The phrase, then, should mean that there was an inadequate supply of blood to the bowel. I am sorry I can't tell you any more about it, without further information about your mom's health before she died. I am not a doctor. I have spent quite a lot of time reading about medical issues, but most of my reading has been focused on celiac disease, as I have that disease
