I was informed in March of this year that my mother died of a condition of ischemic bowel / arterial insufficiency. I have not been able to find any information on this condition/disease in any medical book or journal. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Ischemia is an inadequate flow of blood, usually due to a constriction in the blood vessels. It is possible that arterial plaques caused the blockage. The phrase, then, should mean that there was an inadequate supply of blood to the bowel. I am sorry I can't tell you any more about it, without further information about your mom's health before she died. I am not a doctor.
