Tagged As: Could I Be Pregnant
Question:
I have a 8.5 months old son and still breastfeeding very well. My period has not returned. I am wondering if I could be pregnant is because I am feeling rather sick yesterday and today. That it is possible to feel pregnancy symptoms days after conception. Should I just go have a blood test done now? Did anyone else know they were pregnant within a week of conception?
Answer:
A HPT, even ones that detect low HCG levels, will not register a positive until approximately 10-12 days past ovulation, or 5 days past implantation. If you and dh were caught up in the moment this week and you were ovulating and did conceive, a HPT positive reading will not show up this early. (I used a Confirm HPT and got a posistive 11 days past ovulation). You might want to take your waking temp for a few days. Have you ever charted to know approximately what your luteal phase/post-ovulation temps normally are? This should give you an indication if you even did ovulate. I can't help you on the nausea. I have been blessed with never having experienced morning sickness. My cycles have never been regular. When I was younger I only had a period approx every 3 months. When I was 18 I started on the pill and that made it regular. I stopped taking the pill when I was about 21 and never had another period, but I wasn't looking to get pregnant. I started it up again when I got married but only took it for about 3 months before stopping and I got pregnant immediately. Since then I have not had another period, so I have no idea when I am ovulating at all. I have never taken my temp before, but I want to do some research and see if that will help. But mostly we are just trying to figure out if my recent ill feelings are pregnancy or sickness. I am not interested in charting my ovulation because I think that would make me crazy. It's more like if it happens, then its great! I really appreciate your help though. I need to wait longer for sure before I test again. If that one is negative then I will see a Dr, but only if I am still feeling sick. Otherwise I will assume it was just a bug. You could be feeling that you're about ready to get your period. When my period returned after Reece was born the first sign I had was that I felt sick, then two days later my period came. Now I'm in cycle 4 post partum and for the last three cycles I have felt nauseous for at least 3 days after ovulation. I guess it's just the way my body is now reacting to the various hormones.
