Tagged As: How Do I Know If I Am Pregnant
Question:
I am a young girl who is unsure of I am pregnant or not. I looked in a medical encyclopedia we have at home for some help, but it didn't offer much help. My breats have been getting more and more tender lately, but being as young as I am, it may just be normal stuff. I was wondering if there were any other signs that you guys may know about having all ready or are going through it right now. Any emotions that you tend to feel? Any odd pains?
Answer:
FIRST OF ALL YOU DIDN'T SAY HOW OLD YOU ARE. ANYWAY, I'M 19 AND I WAS PREGNANT LAST YEAR. OF COURSE, I WAS LATE ON MY PERIOD. MY BREASTS WERE TENDER BUT NOT AROUND THE NIPPLE. THEY WERE TENDER MORE TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE BREAST. I FELT SLIGHT DIZZINESS AT TIMES. MY APPETITE BECAME MORE INTENSE, AND BELIEVE ME I WAS EATING A LOT. I FOUND THAT I WAS ALWAYS TIRED AND WAS SLEEPING MOST OF THE DAY. I WOULDN'T SAY THAT I HAD ABDOMINAL PAINS, BUT THERE WAS A DIFFERENT FEELING AROUND THE AREA. (A FEELING THAT YOU'VE NEVER FELT BEFORE) JUST SO YOU KNOW, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. MOST PEOPLE EXPERIENCE MORNING SICKNESS, I DIDN'T. (SO I DIDN'T THINK I WAS PREGNANT WHEN I WAS LATE FOR MY PERIOD. BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT MY PERIODS WERE IRREGULAR ANYWAY). ALL YOU CAN DO IS WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE ABOUT A WEEK, WEEK AND A HALF, LATE FOR YOUR PERIOD. FROM THERE, GO GET A TEST AND SEE WHAT COMES UP. ARE YOU READY TO HAVE A BABY? DO YOU WANT A BABY? IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE AS LONG AS YOU ARE FINANCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY READY Well now, it varies. Most women experience some sort of physical symptom (swelling of breasts, nausea, feeling hot, lines on the belly, etc), but the symptoms vary from woman to woman. The best way of gauging whether or not you are pregnant is to look at whether or not you've had your period. When was your last period? How long, usually, is it between periods? When did you expect your next period? If it's been about a week after you expected your period to come, and it hasn't (or you only experienced a little bit of spotting), I suggest you get a Home Pregnancy Test. Read the instructions, take the test, and see what happens. If you get a positive, or you're not sure about the results, I suggest you see a doctor. They can give you another test (a more reliable test) to make sure you are pregnant. If you are pregnant, and if you have a fairly good relationship with your mother, I also suggest you share your news with her. She's been through the whole pregnancy thing before, and can be an invaluable source of information, love and support. If you discover you are not pregnant, and you don't want to be, I suggest you look into reliable forms of birth control (such as the Pill) if you choose to be sexually active, or I recommend abstinence. (You can't beat abstinence, when used properly.)
