Question:
I too have stopped my caffeine intake, and am taking vitamins. Not prenatals, just regular multivitamins. I don't really know what else to do... if you smoke, stop. But I don't smoke. So I'm open to suggestion. Are you reading lots of books? Hubby and I have three.
Answer:
The best pregnancy book I've read is _Your Pregnancy Week-by-Week_ by Glade B. Curtis, MD, FACOG. I like it since it follows the pregnancy weekly, just like the OB does. Also good is the book that the OB gave me at my first visit -- Planning for Pregnancy, Birth, and Beyond. It's produced by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. I'm on number three, now, and I have dumped my What to Expect When You're Expecting -- I don't like the format, I find the monthly breakdown incredibly annoying, and their Best Odds Diet is a confusing way of telling you to follow the food pyramid. Just some book opinions for you -- congratulations on your decision to start a family -- let us know when you are expecting! I've just thought: can I suggest to those of you waiting to get pregnant that it might be worth charting your temperatures for a couple of months beforehand (while you're waiting)? There's quite a few advantages - you'd get to learn what your natural cycle was like, without pressures; whether you ovulate OK and on what day of your cycle, whether your luteal phase is long enough (should be at least 10-12 days to realistically be able to sustain a pregnancy). Visit www.fertilityuk.org - it is *the* site for learning fertility awareness.
