Tagged As: Get Rid Of Morning Sickness
Question:
My wife is now exactly 12 weeks pregnant. From 6 weeks she's suffered, from what seems to be, relatively (comparative to our friends/others) bad morning sickness - extreme nausea mostly all day, vomiting from 1 to up to maximum 5 or 6 times daily. She's starting to get really depressed about the whole thing now... so what's supposed to be an incredible part of our lives is turning into a bit of a nightmare actually. Anybody got any advice as to how we can cope better, when to expect things to change (if ever), diet tricks etc etc...
Answer:
tell her to see the ob and ask for some phenergan. Take it with meals and first thing in the morning. It should help. If that does not help the next med I was gaven was zofran and that is a cancer med for anti-nausea which didn't work for me either the second time around. So the only thing I can tell you non-medically is to eat small frequent meals and watch the stress because there is such a thing as stress induced morning sickness. For coping with constant nausea and vomiting, it's all trial and error. The conventional wisdom says eat little bits at a time, things like crackers, small bits of protein, ginger (ale, tea, anything with ginger in it), etc. For me personally, very spicy foods, salty foods like potato chips, Coke, bitter tea helped. I couldn't handle ginger ale after awhile and the tea did nothing. Also, I have not eaten crackers since my first pregnancy, I am so turned off by them now. (Most of those foods are things I normally never eat: spicy stuff, chips, tea... Go figure!) I felt better by about 15 weeks. It feels like it will never end, and for some women, it does not. If your wife gets very dehydrated from vomiting, make sure she gets to the hospital for an IV. Try to keep drinking liquids of any sort to stay hydrated. My philosophy is do whatever works. So, keep trying to eat different things, or not eat, whatever will help... I find that as well as the m/s I feel very low during the first trimester. I am 16 weeks now and feel like a new woman! The good news is, it should be over soon, most sickness does end between 12 and 16 weeks. The best thing I can suggest is eat, eat if she wakes up in the night, eat before she gets out of bed in the morning in particular. Drinking ginger ale or ginger beer is also good.
