What is best medication for nausea-purchased in Canada ?

Tagged As: Medication For Nausea

Question:
Looking for Bonine in Canada-I cannot locate it here. What is best medication for sea sickness-if possible would still like the odd evening glass of wine ( I am not a lush)! Have any of you tried the patch? Please let me know.

Answer:
It is a perscription drug in Canada, ask your MD. There are a number of drugs (including some of the anti-psychotic drugs) that are effective, but none are without their side effects. have you considered something nonintrusive such as wrist bands (which are based on acupuncture techniques and if used correctly are highly successful). Best of all, you drink to your heart's content and don't have to worry. You must know how to use the wristbands properly, otherwise they are completely ineffective. I was aboard a pretty rocky cruise a few years back, and many passangers were literally throwing their wristbands overboard. I have used the patch and found it works well. It does not make you as drowsy as say Gravol or Dramamine, but there are still minor side effects. We've had excellent results with Gravol ( and generic equivalents). You can also get the more potent Scopolamine patches. Both are over-the-counter remedies, and work very well. DO NOT use them simultaneously. I don't know if alcohol is contraindicated. At the Pharmacy, I asked the Pharmacist for suggestions. She stated that if I felt lousy to either jump in the shower or get to the top level of the ship. She gave no pill, patch or wristband suggestions since they DO NOT work for everyone. I am a non-drowsy Dramamine junkie for air, amusement park rides, back seat of a car or van, etc. So seasickness should be taken care of also.
