what's morning sickness?

Tagged As: Morning Sickness Onset

Question:
How exactly does one tell the different between an episode of some sort of stomach virus and the onset of morning sickness?

Answer:
For most women, nausea and vomiting of pregnany is accompanied by changes in olfactory perception which cause everyday odors to be disagreeable. If I have the stomach flu, I can still open the door to the frig without suddenly gagging. With NVP, I gag when I open the frig door or get too close to the kitchen sink (which really is not that dirty, but still....) For me telling the difference was impossible until after I had the positive test. I took the test due to a combination of symptoms. I couldn't drink my coffee in the morning(it made me gag) Couldn't eat the eggs hubby made me for breakfast (more gagging) brushing my teeth was pure hell (you guessed it gagging) The next day while lying on the couch with my toddler jumping up and down on top of me I fell asleep. When I woke up I called my husband and asked him to buy a test on the way home from work that day. I also had really sore nipples when my son nursed. In my experience after you throw up with a stomach virus you feel better, with morning sickness you still feel awful. If you start getting a fever and/or diarrhea, it's probably a bug and not morning sickness. (If you think you could be pregnant, and start getting a fever, contact your doctor. Fever over 101 F can be harmful to the fetus) Not necessarily true. I only had morning sickness in the morning and if I threw up I would immediately feel better for the rest of the day instead of gradually getting over it.
