No morning sickness yet ?

Tagged As: Morning Sickness Signs

Question:
have been reading messages about women suffering terrible morning sickness - you have my sympathy. I am around 11 weeks and have suffered absolutely no morning sickness at all, have only gone off my food slightly. I am starting to worry about this as some of the comments to others have been along the line of dont worry if you are very sick - it is a sign of healthy pregnancy. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing but is no sickness a sign of a problem?? Have not put on any weight yet (I have plenty to spare) so I am not bulging yet. Only symptom has been extreme tiredness which is disappearing and tender breasts. I really dont feel very pregnant at all !!

Answer:
don't worry. Although I did have pretty bad morning sickness, I have read that about 50% of all women do not have morning sickness at all, or only slightly (don't care for the exact percentage: the important thing is that there are quite a few of these lucky ones) If people say that morning sickness is a sign of healthy pregnancy, this does not automatically imply that no morning sickness means there is something wrong! (I should add that there are even a few women for which morning sickness does not start until month four) As to the weight gain: I did not gain more than 1-2 lb during first trimester and I had normal prepregnancy weight. This, too, is fairly normal. So don't worry too much. I know these weeks of not feeling really pregnant- that will stop only if you feel the first movements. In the meantime, enjoy feeling Leah, I too never had any morning sickness and found it hard to believe that I was pregnant. But, let me assure you, my baby is fine, growing normally. Some women get sick, some don't. Let's be thankful we're the latter of the two Leah - I am 23 weeks into my second pregnancy (first one resulted in healthy girl now 2 yo) and have never had a flicker of morning sickness. As far as that nausea = healthy pregnancy theory, a close friend that had had several weeks of 'morning' (more like all day) sickness has just miscarried at 11 weeks. Everyone is different, and every pregnancy within an individual is different. For my first one, I had sore breasts before I had even missed a period. For this one, the breasts didn't kick in until second trimester. (So of course, I worried a bit ... maybe this second one wasn't normal .... how we love to torture ourselves!!) No weight gain during first trimester is also completely OK - be happy about that, it will change ... I too am one of the lucky few that do not get morning sickness. This is my second pregnancy, and no sickness. My daughter was (and is) very healthy. To be sick or not really isn't an indication that your pregnancy is or isn't healthy and normal. I think God knows I couldn't handle a pregnancy where I threw up all the time. I have two kids and never had much morning sickness during either pregnancy. Oh, alright, I threw up once with my first - those stupid horsepills they call prenatal vitamins made me a bit green. And garbage smells really bugged me during my second pregnancy...but essentially, I felt fine. I started to get really paranoid because a close friend who was pregnant around the same times (her kids are one month older and three months younger respectively) had TERRIBLE morning sickness and was always telling me what a healthy sign it was. I was convinced there must be something wrong with me. Both of my pregnancies were entirely normal and uneventful and both kids are radiantly healthy. I also did not throw up during transition (as many women do) so go figure. Strong stomach, different bod.
