Question:
I'm 8 weeks pregnant, with practically NO symptoms. No morning sickness, negligible fatigue. Nothing other than some breast discomfort and very little emotional lability. I'm deliriously happy about this, of course, but am beginning to wondering if this total lack of symptoms can this possibly be normal? My mom had morning sickness and horrendous fatigue before she missed her period. Ditto my two closest friends who have had babies recently. Should I be concerned?
Answer:
I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 8 weeks due to the lack of symptoms. I noticed breast tenderness, fatigue, and some minor stomach ailments but I thought it was diet and work related. My pregnancy progressed without complications and I am now 35 weeks pregnant. So consider yourself lucky and remain positive. many people, me included don't have any of these symptoms -- hope you don't either there is no relationship when age is controlled between morning sickness and a healthy pregnancy outcome [early studies which suggested this proved to be defective because they hadn't controlled for age -- controlling for age there is no relationship between morning sickness and miscarriage] The fact that your Mum had sickness etc won't make any difference to how you feel. My Mum had next to no sickness/tiredness (She said she felt slightly sick from 10:00-10:30 every morning) and I was sick (one to four times a day plus feeling sick continuously) from week 5 to week 25. It's perfectly normal to feel as you do-but it may hit you yet, so don't feel too smug! I think at 8 weeks I hadn't noticed much except heavier breasts and being really hungry. Morning sickness did set in somewhat after that, but it never got too bad (especially after I learned that nausea meant hunger and learned to head it off!). I haven't had much in the way of mood swings or other emotional effects, but then PMS doesn't often get me that way, either. So, relax, enjoy, and count your lucky stars! DON'T WORRY! Everyone is different. If you have no symptoms, consider yourself lucky! I have felt sick every time starting around 2 or 3 weeks, but thats just me. I know alot of people who never got sick at all. My mother breezed through all of her pregnancies. Never ANY sickness, tenderness, swelling. No problems except she was tired right at the end. Hoping yours goes just as well. I wouldn't be. With my first, I had symptoms right away, but with this one I didn't have any symptoms until 8 weeks or so, not even tender breasts..I am such a worry wart, and I had my betas checked twice. I am due with #2 in about 5 1/2 weeks. you are fine :) Welcome and congratulations. I didn't really notice any symptoms straight away either, the all day nausea and tender breasts came a few weeks later. I wouldn't be concerned. First congratulations Donna. I never had any morning sickness which concerned me because all of my friends had it, so why didn't I? I later came to the realization that I was lucky to not have experienced it. Don't be concerned just enjoy it.
