Morning sickness - remedies?

Tagged As: Morning Sickness Treatment

Question:
I'm six weeks pregnant and started having symptoms of morning sickness a few days ago. It tends to strike in late morning and continues for the remainder of the day. The only thing that seems to help is eating, but if I keep doing that I'll be the size of a house by the second trimester! The weirdest thing is that I had no nausea or vomiting when pregnant with my daughter 3 years ago, so I'm rather inexperienced at the whole morning sickness thing

Answer:
Eating helps my ms too. I try and eat fruit or raw carrots and if I get the really bad belly rumbles - a slice or toast or too. Drinking lots of water or squash can help the tum feel fuller than it is. The other things I found helped were going for a walk in the fresh air and ginger. Ginger tea, crystallised ginger, pickled ginger, ginger biccies. Didn't matter what form the ginger was in, it really helped. For me ms this time round isn't bad enough to resort to this but I have a stash in the kitchen cupboard just in case! I don't have many suggestions for you but I'm at almost the exact same stage of pregnancy as you (I'm due Nov 2) and my morning sickness also just kicked in a few days ago. Mine seems to be worst first thing in the morning when I get up, then wanes for a few hours, then hits again later in the afternoon (any minute now, probably). By dinner time I have no urge whatsoever to eat. The only thing I've really been interested in eating (and that doesn't make me nauseous to think about) is any kind of fruit. Especially apples, oranges, plums and lemons. I actually had my first craving the other night, right after I went to bed, for a lemon. I ended up getting up and eating half a lemon standing at the kitchen counter! It was soooo good. Probably wrecked my teeth but who cares. I have read that lemon (especially raw, or lemon juice in water) helps to ease nausea, so that might help you. Also, apparently smelling lemon or lime (such as a slice, or citrusy essential oil) can also help. Oh, and I've heard that peppermint tea helps ease nausea. Also, eating cold, crunchy stuff (like carrots, ice cubes, popsicles, etc.) is supposed to help. Belly buddy! November 2 here, too. And the sickness kicked in last week and euch! I get better over the course of the day so that by the evening I can actually eat a proper meal, but it might take me a couple of hours! I find that eating light stuff like rice cakes or Ritz crackers really helps settle until I start feeling hungry. For preference I go for rice cakes made with a fine coating of yeast extract - they have a bit of flavour and hey! Yeast extract is good for folic acid! Iīm due november 7 and morning sickness kicked in yesterday. Itīs not as bad as last time, but at itīs worst in the morning, from around 9 am to noon. The only thing Iīve tried now (that didnīt work last time) is drinking water and eating saltines, works like a charm, at the moment.
