pregnancy and morning sickness ?

Tagged As: Pregnancy And Morning Sickness

Question:
my partner is now 12 weeks pregnant .She is continuing to suffer from severe morning sickness which lasts all day. Any suggestions for a gentle way of releiving this? The problem is aggravated because she suffers from allergic rhinitis which has got much worse over the last 6 weeks, other than that she is in good health.

Answer:
Ginger seems to ease the nausea. Eight oz. of ginger ale helps, or she could take ginger capsules. Also, it is important not to get out of bed before eating a few crackers, and don't let the stomach go empty. The nausea is ten times worse when the stomach is empty. (I always had graham crackers or saltines with me when I was pregnant. And I didn't drink juice of any sort . . . the acid sent me running to the bathroom every time! :) ) Shes pregnant huh! Has she figured out whats causing it yet! Hee Hee! Anyway, I have seen many pregnant women help morning sickness with an herb called Ginger Root. I even seen one gal crunch on the Ginger Root every morning she bought from the produce section yuk! Another way I have seen is regular old fashioned crackers. Try it! I had the same problem with my last pregnancy and I found that munching on Ginger cookies (they came from a healthfood store) helped me immensely. Also keeping food in my stomach all the time helped. Be sure she drinks a lot of water 1 oz for every 1/2 lb of body wieght. This will not only help with nausea, but will prevent water retention. She can take 1 capsule of ginger upon rising and one before and one after meals... she should never eat a lot at a sitting but many small meals. these all sound like useful suggestions, but you might also want to look into her taking a B6 supplement as this has been found to be very helpful in treating morning sickness. The dose I have seen recommended is 50mg every 4 hours ( see Prescription for Nutritional Healing by J.F. Balch and P. A. Balch - much good information here) in addition to 400 mg Magnesium taken in the morning. They do not recommend that these supplements be taken for extended periods of time.
