Question:
I know I'm supposed to eat enough carbs to stay out of ketosis, so I've upped my fruit and vegetable intake and that seems to work fine. The problem is morning sickness - unfortunately, I find there is nothing like a piece of bread or a few crackers to cure the nausea. However, once I start eating bread or crackers I can't seem to stop after eating a reasonable number. By that I mean I'll consume an entire loaf of whole-grain, 12-grain bread in two days, and 1/4 of a box of Saltines over the course of a day. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can eat to help quell the nausea but that won't send me on a binge?
Answer:
my sister suffered from *severe* morning sickness and she found that the only way to alleviate or at least lessen it was to take a half of a Unisom. it's harmless to the fetus and it helped her immensely. it will make you feel a bit tired though... This may be one of those obvious things, but have you tried Ginger tea? I had severe morning sickness (couldnt eat - my diet consisted of prenatal vitamins and ginger tea for 16 weeks!). The seabands made me sicker, as did the morning sickness meds (maxolon in Australia). the only thing that seemed to help was ginger tea. When I could eat, I found that a plain biscuit helped. I wouldnt go on a binge because I couldnt eat, so I cant help there. but definitely try the tea. Or, failing that, see your Obstetrician, he/she will help you out with a safe-for-baby medication. i also heard on the radio that going swimming helps also. funny, the remedies for morning sickness are the same for motion sickness. if you're in a boat and get sick, get in the water and you'll be fine. motion sickness meds are the same chemically as sleeping pills. Oddball relevant anecdote here: when I was pregnant with my daughter I had horrible morning, noon and night sickness. For a while I worked security and one of the places I worked was aboard the USNS Higgins. I enjoyed that one, because when I was on-board the nausea *left*. I could call for pizza and actually *eat it*!
