Question:
With both of my boys, I did not have morning sickness. I am at 7 weeks now and am starting to feel periods of nausea an ickiness, early in the morning and from about 4:00 p.m. until bedtime. The foods I used to love just don't taste as good anymore. I eat when I am hungry but I do not enjoy it. Can I expect to start throwing up soon? In your experiences, at what week did your morning sickness begin?
Answer:
When I was pregnant with my daughter Jane, I started feeling mildly nauseous at about 8 weeks. Everyone told me that the morning sickness would end around 12 weeks. Well, guess what? On the exact first day of my second trimester, I started throwing up and I stayed nauesous and vomitting until about my 6th month. It took me until then to register a positive weight gain. I'm hoping with this second pregnancy the same won't happen. I'm sure each woman who answers you will give you a different answer. Unfortuantely, there's no set timetable for nausea. However, the one piece of advice I can offer is protein protein protein. It was the one kind of food that always made me feel better. I lived on scrambled eggs, lox and fish sticks. Not everyone GETS morning sickness. I had two entirely normal pregnancies with little to no sickness. I found smells bothered me a bit and I would feel a little green, but the only times I actually threw up were when I made the mistake of taking my maternity vitamin on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Only took once or twice before I figured out that I should take the silly thing mid-morning after I had eaten. The opinions expressed are my own. You may never experience morning sickness at all. I was slightly nauseous whenever I went too long without eating, but I never threw up once. Hopefully, that will be the same case for you! Morning sickness is kinda like a women's cycle. Each of us are different. My mother had morning sickness the morning after conception, so she says. I on the other hand mine didn't start until I was 12 weeks and I have several friends that never had it. One thing I did learn is that I contracted gull stones right before I started having morning sickness. Gull stones will make you feel the same way as morning sickness, but it lasts all day and everytime you eat it really flares up. One thing no one ever told me is that women are more likely to contract gull stones while pregnant. I had to learn the hard way. Needless to say we are all different and start at different times.
