how soon to test for pregnancy??

Tagged As: Positive Pregnancy Test

Question:
I'm real empatient and I was wondering if there was a test to find out if you are pregnant even before your period is suppost to start!!! Just curious as there are so many things on the market now.

Answer:
I remember with one of my pregnancies that I knew when I was eleven days pregnant. The instructions don't say to test that early, but like you, I was impatient to find out. (I was obsessed with having a girl and was going through ovulation and pregnancy kits like crazy [literally]). Anyway, I tested positive eleven days after conception. It may be that I have higher-than-average levels of whatever that hormone is that the test detects, because I get pretty sick, and that same hormone is what is associated with morning sickness. So you may be wasting your $15 (or whatever it is) to test that early because that hormone may not have reached a level yet that the test can detect. But it *won't* give you an inaccurate positive if you aren't pregnant (i.e., you can't attain that level of that hormone if you aren't pregnant). All it can do incorrectly is tell you you aren't pregnant when in fact you are if you take the test before the hormone has gotten high enough. It's been a while, but I think you were supposed to wait until day 14 to test, so I was only 3 days early. But 3 days can feel like an ETERNITY. Then I waited another 6 months to find out it was a girl. They gave me the amnio results over the phone. Normal fetus. Thank you for the information. You're welcome. Goodbye. WAIT!!!! Boy or girl? Oh, were we supposed to tell you that? Yes! O.K., it's XX. Then I couldn't allow myself to believe I was having a girl finally until I checked with someone else to make sure XX was girls. I knew which was which, but didn't trust myself. I agree with Paula. After trying to get pregnant for a long while and having so many disappointments, I decided I would wait to take the test. I just didn't want to find out that I was, in fact, pregnant only to get my period late. Knowing that would have depressed me much more than thinking it was just another failed attempt at conception. So, I waited till I was over 2 weeks late to take a test and found out I was pregnant :). It drove my husband crazy, but once I did confirm I was pregnant I found a whole new set of worries to occupy my time ;).
