newly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis

Tagged As:

I am a mother of a 29 month old little girl who has just been diagnosed with UC. What a shock! She was hospitalized for a week and has been home for almost two weeks. Her symptoms are still there even with the prednisone and sulfasalazine. Any ideas on when this will end and her stools will be normal again?

sorry to hear your daughter's bad news. i am 31 and have had UC for around 7 years. I have been on both of the medications you mentioned and with a large dosage of prednisolone, i managed to get everything under control. unfortunately, i became dependant on presnisolone and i am now on an immue-suppresant drug called azathioprine. this has enabled me to come off prednisolone as it is a bad long-term drug to take. azathioprine does not come without it's scary side effects but is enabling me to lead a normal life. i hope your daughter gets well soon - it is a crappy disease and i don't like hearing about young people being diagnosed with it. Lx
