I have been dealing with abdominal pain for the past three months. It originally started on my lower right side sometimes accompained by pain on the lower left. Lately though, the pain moves all over my abdomen. I also have had severe nausea and occasional diahrrea, but never with blood in it. Sometimes though my stools are "ribbon-like," but not always. Also on other days, I have a constant urge to have a bowel movement when there is nothing there. And on others I have to run to the bathroom to make it because it of its urgency. Since it began, I have lost about 20 pounds. I am also very fatigued and lightheaded. I saw my primary doctor who decided to do an ultrasound which came out negative. He then thought that I could have possible ulcers so I was put on aciphex for two weeks that didn't help me. After that didn't work, I had a CT scan done that showed I had a fatty liver, but I am overweight and he said that was normal in overweight people. He ordered a blood test which came back normal. Around this time I also got sick with a sinus infection and my diarrea got worse and I started getting a fever. I also started throwing up. I went to the ER and the doctor said he could do nothing for me and that I had viral gastroenteritis. After about a week, I was over that and my pains had extended over my entire abdomen. I had a stool sample done that came back normal except it contained yeast in it. Finally I was able to get into a gastroenterologist. He did an EGD and said that I had reflux, gastritis, and duodenitis. He said it was probably caused by an infection and put me on flagyl to get rid of any parasites and bacteria that might be present. I have finished that perscription and I am a little better but not a whole lot. Now I am going in for a colonoscopy. I have read up a little on crohn's and believe that I could have it but my doctor had made no mention of it. I also would like to know if gastritis and duodenitis could be linked to crohn's. There is a family history of colon polyps, but I am only 16 and don't really believe that is the problem.
