Five days and no GI/Bowel movement - should I be concerned?

Tagged As: No Bowel Movement

Question:
So I took some Imodium to help stop the uncontrollable bowel movements that were happening due to my stomach flu, and now after five days, I still haven't had a bowel movement of any kind!  Is this dangerous? My stomach feels bloated and my sides are sore, and I haven't felt like going until this morning, but I still haven't been able to.  But I don't want to take anything to help this along because I'm afraid to start the waterworks again. So, should I be worried?

Answer:
Eat a handful of raisins and drink some hot tea, or eat corn. I don't know about the corn thing doesn't work for me. Try some milk of magnesia, or go on a clear liquid diet for a couple of days, that should get you going. Sorry you are bloated, I know all about that. You took the Imodium to stop diarrhea, so you may not have too much in your bowel unless you have been eating a bunch, in which case I am jealous. Anything is worth a try. OK, like I am not sure if a guy should enter here but I do know a fleet enema will work in three min. and there will be no after effect that I have ever seen. My son 14 has always had  bowel trouble and I have to help every few months. Any drug store will help you and no rx needed. Tis not going to be your sweetest moment but it will work. Yikes....if you had the uncontrollable bowel movements due to the stomach flu, probably would be better to let it pass through your system.  Prunes or fleet that someone else mentioned might work. Not sure, I've definitely never had this problem....ever! I've had this happen after taking Imodium, too.  Usually lasts 3-5 days, depending on what's left in my system before I take it.  (i.e. if there's absolutely nothing left in my system when I finally take it, it's longer before I go again.)  I know I'm not the only one that's had this…Oh, and it's longer if you took more than one Imodium.  That stuff really works! I wouldn't worry yet... but if it lasts much longer after trying these helpful ideas, I'd probably call the doc... I don't wanna gross anyone out, but I thought for many years that I might have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) -- My wife laughed at me... I'm not Shitin' you I told my wife, there is such thing!! ... having to poop within' minutes of eating, and some days pooping all day long and then going several days without pooping. I found a fix!!! I heard from someone/somewhere that consuming Kidney beans would help regulate my bowel moves... and I shit you not... they did!!!   I've been enjoying B&M's Baked Kidney Beans (although my family ain't enjoying the side-effects) for over a month and I can honestly say that my BM's (WAIT A MINUTE -- BM'S... B&M... is there some sorta secret concoction going on here???)  have been very regular lately. With the very little bit of nutritional training that I've had (Culinary Arts graduate w/ a few courses in nutrition and diet therapy), I'd think that any diet that high in fiber will help regulate things.
