Is spastic colon the same as 'irritable bowel syndrome/disease'?

Tagged As: Spastic Bowel

Question:
I had my colonoscopy, and what I have is spastic colon.  The doctor said that what he saw looked fine.  The blood that was in my stool was the result of hemorrhoids (I never had those before, so I had no clue.) Is spastic colon the same as 'irritable bowel syndrome/disease'?  He prescribed dicyclomine for me; and told me to try a low fat, low caffeine diet.  Can anyone advise me on this?  Does it go away?  What is the best way to manage it?  Thank you for all of your previous assistance.

Answer:
Yes, irritable colon is IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. Some recommend a high fiber diet. There are several websites that provide diet advice. It usually is chronic. http://www.ibsinformation.com/ http://content.health.msn.com/content/dmk/dmk_summary_account_1703
