what exactly is this spastic colon and is it really nothing to worry about and no meds needed?

Tagged As: Spastic Colon

Question:
I am 26 years old and I have had UC for 7 years...I have never really been in remission, I have had flares most of the time. I had a colonoscopy done two weeks ago because I had some narrow stools and on top of the UC my doctor diagnosed me with a spastic colon.  She wasn’t very good about explaining what it is and she said it wasn’t anything to worry about, she said it was causing me to have the narrow stools though but she said no treatment is necessary. I'm wondering if anyone here has ever had something like this, and what exactly is this spastic colon and is it really nothing to worry about and no meds needed?

Answer:
It's another name for irritable bowel syndrome. Look here for more information:       http://www.ibsgroup.org spastic colon is the same thing as irritable bowel syndrome (ibs). Being careful about what you eat and watching your stress factor will probably help more than anything.
